It's hard to believe we're already having his 3 month hearing test.
It's the same test that he had at one month, so they were checking his hearing on high, middle and low pitches, and on a spectrum of volume levels. They were testing the nerves in his ears that are sending signals to his brain stem to see how they are responding to the noise and what all he is responding to.
We got there and I started to feed him because he is supposed to come hungry, eat, then fall asleep so they can complete the test while he is in a relaxed state.
Once he finished eating, they started on his left ear. He wasn't fully asleep so everytime the doctor would start a new sound, he would suck very loudly on his pacifier so I always knew when she was starting something new.
His left ear looked great! He responded to every sound that was tested in that ear. He was able to hear everything all the way down to the lowest pitch. Then onto the right ear. His hearing looked great on that ear as well which is great news!
With CMV, he has multiple hearing screens. I believe I mentioned this in a previous post, but at his 6 month test his hearing with be 96-97% accurate of what it will be for life and at one year it will be 99% accurate. So there is still a potential of hearing loss up until the age of around 6 and it is something we will continue to monitor but it's looking great right now and him passing the hearing test today is reassuring for the future tests. We'll be back in July for another test to see how everything is trending.
